Review: Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner

Growing up, mum has always been the one encouraging me to take care of my hair - as I had extremely long hair that needed to maintained regularly.  I never thought much about this piece of advise until a couple of years back, when my hair started falling due to hormonal changes and other factors - and that's when i started investing in good hair products. One of my most amusing videos on Youtube is Caroline Hiron's product empties, her reviews are extremely reliable and she has a great sense of humour! She raves about Pureology products in almost all of her videos and of course i had to have my hands on them to see what's all the hype about.

Before I start the review, I just wanted to highlight that these products were bought with my own money and all opinions are my own.

About Pureology:
Its a brand that was created in 2001 in California and the aim was to design a hair range dedicated for colour-treated and damaged hair. The founders of this brand believe that in order to achieve good and healthy hair, its important to create pure formulas that are free from chemicals and nasties.  Thus, after long years of research - they have developed hair products that are sulphate free, colour safe, eco-friendly and made of 100% vegan ingredients. The products are also infused with aromatherapy fragrance for an indulgent experience and it has quickly become a favourite for famous hair stylists.

About The Hydrate Range:
I was a bit torn between the wide range of products that this brand has to offer, as my hair isn't coloured - but i was on the hunt for natural shampoos for damaged hair caused by heat and styling. I settled for the hydrate shampoo and conditioner that will help combat dryness while giving the hair more radiance. It comes in a pretty purple packaging and if you have been following me for a while, you would know this is my favourite colour! The range is designed with an AntiFade complex, which protects hair colour and gives it more vibrancy.

1- The Hydrate Shampoo (250ml):
This shampoo is supposed to hydrate the hair and soothe the scalp - while protecting the colour and shine of the hair. The shampoo is rich in potent ingredients like Jojoba, green tea, sage, soy proteins, oat and wheat - which help repair, revitalise and strengthen the hair. The formula is also infused with a rich blend of Ylang Ylang, Bergamot and Patchouli - leaving your hair smelling divine for days. shampoo itself is lilac in colour and looks a little thick, but it melts into your hair easily once you apply it. The product lathers quite well, so  you only need a small amount to cover your entire hair. My first impression after rinsing off this shampoo is that my hair felt instantly smooth, hydrated and my scalp felt extremely clean. Also, the scent of this shampoo is quite soothing and keeps your hair smelling fresh for days. This has quickly become one of my favourite shampoos and if you have coloured hair - you might love it even more!

2- The Hydrate Conditioner (250ml):
This conditioner has the same benefits as the shampoo, in the sense that it hydrates dry hair and protects it's colour and shine. However, it is more concentrated in formula to deeply quench parched hair without stripping it from it's natural oils. It also has a different scent than the shampoo as it is infused with peppermint and corn mint oil. I like to apply it on the ends of my hair and leave it for a minute before rinsing off - the instructions on the packaging advises the same. The conditioner feels extremely light on the hair, it washes off quickly and does not leave any thick residue on the hair. Moreover, it does not weigh the hair down or leave it looking flat - this shows when you dry it and style it later on as the hair looks voluminous and shiny.

Overall opinion:
I'm quite impressed by the quality of Pureology hair products and think they are totally worth the hype. I'm curious to try other products from the hydrate range such as leave in conditioners, dry shampoos and heat protecting sprays. I'm also excited to explore other ranges that target other issues such as hair loss and dandruff. If you're on the hunt for reliable hair products that are free from nasties and quite effective, then i highly recommend giving Pureology a try. Also, their products are not ridiculously expensive and they easily accessible online.
