Review: YSL Couture Clutch Eye Shadow Palette

Hi lovelies! It's been ages since the last time I have posted a blog post. It almost feels like I took a year off from blogging - and I did in fact do that as the last post was published in May 2019! Oh well, lots of things have changed since then and now we're in the middle of a pandemic alongside other global issues and no one really predicted. Let's just say that 2020 is not anyone's year really! Apart from that, I've been posting loads of makeup looks on my Instagram page, since I'm spending more time at home and my followers have been loving those.
So, I've recently done an impulse purchase to help me create more eye looks and it's basically the couture clutch palette from YSL. The palette is super boujee as it's inspired by the classic YSL quilted clutches and of course I had to get it because it looks like my real clutch (I know, lame). So, today in today's blog post I'll be telling you all about my experience with this palette.

Packaging:
Obviously, the packaging was one of the main reasons I have purchased this palette. It's crafted from faux black leather and has the iconic gold YSL logo on top. It also feels weighted in your hands which gives it a luxurious touch and portrays how well made the palette is. When you open the palette, you're greeted with perfectly squared shadows that are decent in size and you could definitely get so much use out of them. It also has a huge mirror in the inside which is always a plus point, but the palette is still quite heavy and doesn't feel like something that I would take on-the-go.

Product/Experience:
The palette comes in two versions: Marrakech and Paris. I went for Marrakech because it includes hues of pinks, corals and blues - which are totally my cup of tea. The first time I tried to create a makeup look using this palette I was not in the best of moods. So, I ended up creating 3 different looks then wiping them off because I was not happy with the result. But I really wanted to hold the palette in my arms and whisper it's not you, it's me! Anyhow, I did play with the palette quite a bit and I got to test the formula and wear of the shadows. The verdict is, the formula of these shadows is really soft and buttery but they tend to have lots of fall out. Thus, you need to be extremely careful when applying the shadows and maybe leave your base products till last. They're quite pigmented but it's advisable to build up the colors and tap off any excess product from your eye brushes before packing the shadows on your lids or blending. That being said, the colors are super wearable and even if you're someone who is normally intimidated by colors, you could totally rock these colors and customize the intensity.

Overall opinion:
The palette is definitely not the most mind blowing makeup purchase I've ever done and at the end of the day, I paid to get my hands on a designer item that looks good on my vanity and also wear during the summer time. If you're a makeup collector and want to add this piece of art palette to your collection, then I recommend giving the YSL couture clutch a try. If you're looking for a pro palette that will give you insane pigmentation, no fall out and more color variety, then this might not be the palette for you. Personally, I'm really happy with the palette and I could definitely see myself creating more looks with it.

Note: The palette is priced at $100 and I purchased mine from Selfridges website.
